For the third summer in a row, Just Mystic is proud to partner with Project Oceanology—or “Project O,” as most locals know it—to create fun and memorable camp t-shirts! These shirts start as simple camp gear but quickly become canvases for creativity, with every camper adding their own ocean-inspired touch. From painted seahorses and fish to imaginative waves and shells, the results are wearable works of art that celebrate the sea and the spirit of summer.

This annual tradition has become one of our favorite ways to collaborate with an organization that’s been a cornerstone of marine science education along the Long Island Sound for over 50 years. Founded in 1972, Project O is a nonprofit dedicated to hands-on, place-based learning. Each summer, its camps welcome students in grades 4–12 for day and residential programs that combine adventure with science—think monitoring seal populations, collecting water quality data, or hauling in trawl nets aboard their research vessel, the Enviro-Lab.

By integrating art with science, the t-shirt project gives campers a chance to connect with the ocean on a personal level. The process of designing and decorating their shirts encourages creativity, fosters a sense of ownership, and provides a lasting reminder of their time by the water.

We love supporting Project O’s mission of inspiring the next generation of ocean explorers, scientists, and stewards. Partnerships like these remind us of the incredible ways local organizations can come together to make learning meaningful and fun.
